Jordan Obita spoke of the Royals' disappointment after a narrow 1-0 defeat at home to Bristol City at Madejski Stadium on Tuesday night.
A tight first half saw the teams go in goalless at the break, with Reading dominating for long periods in the second half.
However, a quick counter-attack saw Jamie Paterson put through on goal, slotting under Rafael to give the visitors the lead on the night.
The Royals piled on the pressure towards the final whistle, with Yakou Méïté hitting the post and Chris Gunter having a follow-up effort cleared off the line in stoppage time.
There was a sense of frustration after the match with what could have been for the Royals on Tuesday night, with Academy graduate Obita offering his thoughts after the match.
"It was obviously disappointing to concede a goal we didn't think we should have conceded," Obita said. "We're really disappointed because we felt like we should have probably got something.
"It was really tight, both teams had done really well defensively. But we had chances to score, especially late on - and unfortunately, we didn't take them today.
"On another day, they'd probably go in, but maybe we need to be a bit more ruthless. As we already know, we were unlucky with Gunts' one off the line, but on another day, hopefully that would go in.
"Every game is tough in the Championship, and especially at home we want to try and get a win regardless of who we're playing.
"But hopefully we can get back right for Friday, and hopefully get a couple of points on the board."
