Reading’s Under-23s were defeated 4-2 at the hands of West Bromwich Albion at Aggborough on Monday evening, who overturned a two-goal deficit to win the fixture.
The Royals got off to a good start when Oli Pendlebury latched onto a deep cross and cushioned down for Adam Liddle to hammer in past the stranded goalkeeper from inside the six yard box, putting Reading ahead midway through the half.
And before the half-time break, the lead was doubled when Jack Nolan stormed forward and slipped in Thierry Nevers – goalkeeper Bradley House got a hand to the strike but was beaten by the power.
Ryan Tulloch almost got the Baggies back within a goal before the break, but struck the bar with a dipping free-kick.
But Tulloch did get onto the scoresheet five minutes after the interval as Samuel Wilding went on a jinking run and slotted through for the forward, who converted from close range. And soon after the hosts were level as Chris Willock picked up in the box, danced inside and curled a left-footed effort past an unsighted Coniah Boyce-Clarke.
Then Tulloch completed the turnaround as he received a flighted ball and found an angle to squeeze in, as he shot low and hard across goal from the left.
Reading could have levelled when Ryan Crooks was brought down in the area, but Liddle was denied his second of the night as House got down with a strong palm to keep out the penalty.
And the scoring was wrapped up with a second by Willock, who again cut in from the right and this time fired inside the near post.
