Our hosts this weekend, Luton Town, sit at the foot of the Sky Bet Championship table. But the return of Nathan Jones to the hotseat over the enforced break has seen a rejuvenated Hatters side take five points since the restart – beating Swansea and forcing draws from promotion-hunters Leeds and Preston.
While they were struggling to pick up even single points in the middle of the campaign, the Hatters’ early-season haul and their recent run have given them real hope in their bid to avoid the drop, against the odds.
Luton have a role in our club’s history. They were beaten finalists when we met in the Simod Cup final in 1988, but they were also the only club we failed to pick up a point from on our travels in the 106-point setting season… a 3-2 loss at Kenilworth Road was the only away match that didn’t harvest anything for Reading.
This year, we were 3-0 winners back in November – but we’ll expect more resistance this time out from the Hatters as Nathan Jones' men continue to try to rack up points, by hook or by crook.
A reminder to all of our supporters that this trip to Luton on Saturday is available to watch live on iFollow.

Manager Mark Bowen: “I need to make sure the players who are stepping onto the pitch have the desire and aptitude to get three points for this football club.
“We’ve got to make sure we’re fully prepared for a difficult away trip to Luton, who are fighting for their lives, on Saturday. And we will be.”
Striker Sam Baldock: “Luton are a side in need of the points too, so they’ll give us everything they’ve got. They have a passionate manager who I know very well, they’ll be organised and play with real tempo if they’re anything like their manager.
“He’s come back in over the break, he knows the players well and they know him – they’ve had that bounce straight away and they’ve picked up some very good results. But hopefully that comes to an end on Saturday.”
A polite reminder to all of our supporters that no unauthorised access at all will be permitted to any of our home or away fixtures while games remain behind closed doors, so supporters must not travel to stadia on matchdays. All supporters have the opportunity to watch via iFollow.
We can’t wait to see you all soon – but for now it’s important that when we play, please stay away.
