Reading boss Mark Bowen is keen that his team show the right kind of spirit and attitude when this long campaign finally ends on Wednesday evening against Swansea City.
The Swans arrive with a huge carrot dangling in front of them – they need three points to have a chance of making the play-offs. Our mid-table position won’t be compromised either way by the result, but that’s why the manager is calling on his squad to ensure they go in with full focus and a good mentality, in hopes of getting three points on the board at the final opportunity.
“They’ll ask serious questions of us – we’ll certainly have to make sure we start better on the front foot for that game,” Bowen said.
“It’s going to be a test, but we need to make sure we finish off our season with a win at home. Our home record has not been great… we’ve thrived more away from home.
“We need to make sure we don’t limp over the line on Wednesday night. We need to put a performance in that gets three points for this club.
“It has to be full throttle. We had periods against Blackburn where we looked a good side, but then we had periods where we looked ragged and like we’re not doing the right things.
“So we’ll need to make sure we start fast against Swansea. They’ll come to us knowing that they’ve got a chance of getting in the play-offs. It’ll be a really tough game and our mentality has to be right. We have the ability to get a result against them, if our mentality is right.”
