“I’m excited – a new team and new beginning for me, after so long at Arsenal,” said Danielle Carter, after signing a deal to join Kelly Chambers’ side at Reading FC Women.
“I’m raring to go and I can’t wait to meet all the girls and get going.
“Arsenal is all I’ve known, because I was there so long – grew up there, developed there. But hopefully this new chapter at Reading will be successful.
“The move happened fairly quickly – I had decisions to make about where to go next, and speaking with a couple of players at Reading made me think and swung my decision to sign.
“The ambition is a factor as well – especially now that there will be another spot to qualify for the Champions League. Reading have been so consistent, finishing in the top half, so I want to be a part of that.
“Reading have been trying to challenge for the top. New players are coming in now for a new challenge and it’s exciting. And speaking with Kelly, now we want to challenge that top three.”
With 11 years of domestic and European football under her belt with Arsenal, as well as some England caps, there’s another experienced head in the dressing room.
And on the pitch, she’s keen to add some cutting-edge to the Royals’ front line.
“When I’m playing, it’s a case of putting everything onto the pitch to help the team win,” Carter continued.
“My position is about helping the team to score goals; that’s what I’ll be looking to do.
“I want to get back on the pitch, stay healthy, stay fit. Contribute with goals and help us to win as many games as possible.
“I’m still young, but I’ve got so much experience behind me. I definitely think I’m here to raise standards – in training and in games – and to take this team to the next level.”
