Reading’s 3-1 win against Portsmouth in front of empty stands on Sunday was a bit of a dry run for what’s to come when competitive football returns behind closed doors on Saturday.
It was a good run-out in warm weather – for Jordan Obita, it was all about getting used to the surroundings, more minutes under the belt, and putting the polish on preparations for Stoke!
“There won’t be the atmosphere – every player likes to hear the fans cheering us on and driving us forward,” said Obita. “But everyone is in the same boat and we’ll get on with it.
“It’s just nice to get out here. It will be a bit strange not to have fans in the stadium, but that’s part of the reason why we had our game against Portsmouth – to prepare ourselves for next weekend.
“For a while, we were just doing individual training… which gets a bit boring! When you’re around the boys and you can get some contact in, you can make it feel pretty normal. It’s good to be back.
“We’re pleased with the win; you want to win every single game, to prepare for next week and keep the morale high and keep the spirit up around the club.
“It was a good game – and good to get minutes in the tank ready for next week. Now we want to prepare well and get some points!
“Of course we want to try to win in every single game – we want to try and do the best we can this season, and push on from the last couple of years.”
