Reading Football Club is pleased to support the 2020 Level Playing Field (LPF) Weeks of Action, which is running between 29th February to 15th March. This annual initiative is now in its 16th year, and aims to celebrate access and inclusion for disabled sports fans across England and Wales.
Disabled people are the largest minority group in any population, and with sport having such a unique capacity to bring people together, accessible and inclusive stadia are essential for disabled people to take their rightful places and to participate fully within our society.
For this to be possible, it is important to remove stereotypes and for all barriers to inclusion to be removed whether they be societal, physical, sensory, intellectual or attitudinal.
Weeks of Action is a celebration of those who make access and inclusion for disabled sports fans a reality, whilst also recognising that there is much work still left to do. This is a chance to celebrate the matchday experience for disabled fans.
There will be plenty of activities in the Fun Zone at Saturday’s match against Stoke City at Madejski Stadium, ranging from Sign Language Workshops, penalty shootouts while wearing visually impaired simulation glasses, and lots of arts and crafts.
Local disability charities will be handing out leaflets and answering any questions you may have. There’s due to be a special visit from Kingsley and some members of our squad too!
Both Reading and Stoke City players will be warming up in LPF T-Shirts, to promote the scheme.
We are welcoming hundreds of students and staff from SEN Schools that work with Reading FC Community Trust, who we have invited to watch the game as our guests.
Put simply, changing the game for disabled people changes lives.
Reading FC Community Trust deliver lots of programmes with Partner Schools, which help to make football accessible to everyone.
We are also delighted to announce the launch of our Disabled Supporters Association.
If you are interested in being part of our DSA, please contact our Disability Liaison Officer, Jess Hammant-Cracknell on 0118 968 1313 – option 2 or email firstname.lastname@example.org for further information.
