The Premier League and EFL fixtures came to an abrupt halt, but some former Royals did take to the field this weekend. For those who are starved of their football fix, here is how some ex-Royals got on on Saturday…
A number of former Academy graduates were in National League action at the weekend and striker Gozie Ugwu led the way by scoring the only goal of the game in Ebbsfleet’s 1-0 win at Halifax.
Another ex-Royals youngster, John Goddard also formed part of the Ebbsfleet side on Saturday that took an important televised victory at The Shay, taking them to within one point of getting out of the National League relegation places, with Town in the play-offs as the table stands.
Elsewhere in the fifth tier, Nathan Tyson helped Chesterfield earn a point at Dover Athletic, playing the first 85 minutes of the fixture which ended 1-1 after an 89th minute leveller from the hosts.
Another former Academy forward, Scott Rendell, came off the bench for Eastleigh but far too late to affect the result at Notts County – the home side running away with victory having scored four goals before Rendell’s 78th minute introduction.
Craig Tanner played the full ninety for Aldershot, but Town couldn’t prevent relegation-threatened AFC Fylde earning a slender 1-0 win at Mill Farm to boost their survival hopes.
Overseas, Adam Le Fondre played for Sydney FC but couldn’t find the breakthrough as his side played out a goalless draw with Perth Glory as the A-League battled on.
And in the same division, Simon Cox also earned a point in playing the full ninety minutes for Western Sydney Wanderers at in Melbourne.
And Pavel Pogrebnyak was an unused substitute in a hefty defeat for FC Ural Yekaterinburg as they fell to a 7-1 defeat at Zenit St Petersburg in Russia.
And Mo Barrow, who is still on our books of course, continued his loan spell with Denizlispor, starting in a 1-0 win over Genclerbirligi - pre-season opponents for the Royals back in 2017 - that came courtesy of a Hugo Rodallega winner.
