Our Community Trust have created an activity for any young football fans and wannabe reporters to get involved in – have a go at creating some match commentary from one of our recent fixtures!

It’s focused around our thrilling FA Cup fixture against Sheffield United from March 2020 – a game packed with action, but unfortunately for the Royals ending in defeat after extra-time.

Click here to see the activity – with links to the highlights of the match, as well as the official match report, squad lists, a run-through of the action and some useful pointers about how to make your commentary interesting and engaging.

And BBC Radio Berkshire commentator Tim Dellor has kindly recorded a video full of hints and tips on how to use the power of words and speech to bring the game to life for listeners! Take a look at the video below to hear Tim’s advice and ideas.

Have fun, and be creative – and if you record your own commentary, why not send it over to our Community Trust? Send an email to or tweet to @RFCCommunity to get in touch.

The activity was created for the Premier League Primary Stars programme, which uses the appeal of professional football to inspire children to learn, with a particular focus on created curriculum-related resources focused on KS1 and KS2.
