At the heart and soul of any football club is its fans.
You know all about our players, their skills and abilities, their lives off the pitch. The famous names from our 149-year history and the silverware in our trophy cabinet.
Football has taken the backseat, but the club continues to tie together its community. In Reading, across Berkshire, throughout the UK and the wider world – wherever our blue and white hoops are proudly worn.
That’s why we want to switch the focus and shine the spotlight on our supporters. Specifically, we want to share the stories of some Reading-supporting key workers with fellow fans.
While many of us are working from home or furloughed, there are still thousands of key workers travelling to work each day to help others in the spirit of the national effort.
Healthcare and social workers, public services, supermarket staff, emergency services, postal workers, teachers, transport staff and any other key workers – we want to hear from you.
And that’s whether you’re based a stone’s throw from our home in RG2 or if you’re playing your part anywhere else in the world, and whether it’s a role you’ve played for your whole career or if you’re playing out of position, proverbially speaking, to help others during tough times. You might just want to share an anecdote from yesterday, or share your experience from the whole lockdown period – the choice is yours.
If you would like to share your story (or a friend of family member’s story, with their consent), send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org – you can either send us a few paragraphs yourself about your current role and a bit about your ups and downs as a Reading supporter, or just get in touch and we will follow up with a few questions.
