🗳 João and Pauno receive nominations for October awards

Duo shortlisted for monthly prizes

12 November 2020

After a fruitful October, manager Veljko Paunović and striker Lucas João have each been named on four-man shortlists for the Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Month and Player of the Month, respectively.

October was a month which harvested four wins and a draw from six fixtures - a step in the right direction for the Royals.

And the Royals boss and our prolific front-man have each recognised for their contributions by getting named on the EFL's divisional ballot.

Pauno and his backroom staff masterminded wins over Watford, Wycombe, Rotherham and Blackburn, as well as holding Middlesbrough to a goalless draw, before our undefeated run was finally ended away to Coventry.

Meanwhile Lucas found the net in four straight games as well as picking up a couple of assists for his teammates along the way. That included a winning goal against a stubborn Wycombe side, as well as match-sealers against Blackburn and Rotherham.

But as usual, there's stiff competition for the awards.

Norwich City boss Daniel Farke saw his team grab 13 points too - including three winning goals beyond the 87th minute. Barnsley's new manager Valerien Ismael got off to a good start at Oakwell with wins (and clean sheets) in his first two games against Queens Park Rangers and Watford. And lastly, Neil Warnock may hope to add to his 10 Manager of the Month awards from his long career with an unbeaten month for Middlesbrough.

For the players' award, there are two fellow strikers and a goalkeeper for João to contend with. Stoke forward Tyrese Campbell also grabbed four goals and two assists, while Brentford forward Ivan Toney continued his strong start at new side Brentford with a further eight goals throughout the month. At the other end of the field, Norwich owed plenty of their points to the shot-stopping of Tim Krul; his month included a penalty save against Rotherham and clean sheets against Derby and Birmingham.

The judging panel for the Sky Bet Player of the Month comprises Sky Sports’ EFL expert Don Goodman; EFL Communications Director Mark Rowan and Sky Bet EFL trader Ivor Davies; all winners of the monthly awards will be announced tomorrow (Friday 13th November 2020).
