🔜 Preview | Royals women return to league action against Spurs

Reading head to The Hive against Tottenham tomorrow

6 November 2020

Reading FC Women are back in action in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League tomorrow when they take on Tottenham Hotspur Women at The Hive.

The WSL returns for the first time since mid-October when Kelly Chambers’ side drew 1-1 with Manchester City at Madejski Stadium. An international break followed, in which no fewer than 11 Royals reported for duty for their respective nations.

The fixture was originally scheduled to be played the following day, however, due to Barnet being drawn to play at The Hive in the FA Cup on Sunday, the match was moved forward a day.

Reading currently sit in 6th position in the WSL table, just one point behind Manchester City, with wins over West Ham and Aston Villa and the aforementioned draw with City from the first five matches. Tottenham are in 9th with just one point so far, following a draw on the opening day against West Ham.

Both sides were on the wrong end of results in the Continental Cup this week, as Reading went down 3-0 away to West Ham and Spurs suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Chelsea at Kingsmeadow.

The last time we met

Reading and Spurs crossed paths twice in the 2019-20 season. The first encounter came in September in the Continental Cup when the Royals travelled to The Hive and left 4-0 victors after a brace from Brooke Chaplen, a strike from Millie Farrow and an own goal from Tottenham’s Ashleigh Neville.

The second meeting was in the last game of 2019 when Spurs travelled to Adams Park in mid-December. Tottenham struck first through Siri Worm and lead until the 77th minute when Jo Potter equalised, Remi Allen put Reading in front and Amalie Eikeland put the icing on the cake with a solo effort that sealed an impressive come-from-behind 3-1 victory.
