A pair of headers from Brooke Chaplen and Ashleigh Neville in the first half sealed a draw at The Hive as Reading FC Women and Tottenham saw out a 1-1 draw in the FA Barclays Women’s Super League
Reading took control early in the game, coming close within the first few minutes after Brooke Chaplen puts a ball into the box which is just too much of a stretch for Amalie Eikeland, but it falls for Angharad James, whose shot hits the side netting.
A few minutes later, Rachel Rowe tried her luck from outside the box, but her shot was dealt with by Rebecca Spencer.
Reading had a nice spell of possession which culminated in Emma Mitchell putting a beautiful cross in from the left, which was met by a rising Chaplen, who nodded into the Spurs net to open the scoring.
Deanna Cooper took a knock in the Royals area and was replaced by Kristine Leine just after the quarter of an hour mark.
The Royals knocked the ball around nicely, but it wasn’t long before Spurs started top threaten and a corner from Siri Worm was headed in by Ashleigh Neville to pull the home-side level half-way through the first-half.
The game became a bit scrappy in the middle of the park with play having to be halted on a couple of occasions due to fouls, but Reading had the better chances as they attempted to get Danielle Carter and Chaplen in on goal, mostly from Mitchell on the left. But as the referees whistle went for the end of the first-half, both teams went into the break on level pegging.
Half-time score: Tottenham Hotspur Women 1 - 1 Reading FC Women
Reading started the second-half as they did the first; pushing early into the Tottenham half. They had nice spells of possession, knocking the ball around nicely between the middle of the park and the wings.
The game progressed with both sides having their chances, but Reading seeing more of the ball. As has been a trend this season, the Royals racked up corner after corner in an attempt to break the deadlock, but they fell just short each time.
Fresh legs were brought on the field by Kelly Chambers in the form of Lily Woodham and Lauren Bruton, replacing Rowe and goal-scorer Chaplen respectively.
The best chance came after the 90 minutes were up, when Jess Fishlock found herself in front of goal and turned her defender inside-out, but couldn’t get the shot in. A moment later, the game was over and Reading players' reactions as the final whistle went seemed to indicate they thought they should have walked away with the win, but instead took a hard-earned point back to RG2.
