💪 "Strong in defence, clinical in attack. They are the basics we need to get back to"

A positive reaction is expected against the Potters this weekend...

Going into another international break, the Royals will be in the top two regardless of the outcome of this weekend's early kick-off clash with Stoke City. But following two defeats, Pauno is well aware that we need to rediscover our winning streak as soon as possible - and his focus is set on Saturday.

"We need to get back on a winning road. That is the challenge. That is how we test ourselves.

"When you lose a game, you want to play immediately so you can fix it. So we have to control the anxiety we have, recycle it and turn it into positive energy and a winning mentality.

"We all understand where we are and what we want to do. We also want to make sure we don't overwhelm the players - I don't want to put unnecessary pressure on the players, because we are all aware of the importance of this game on Saturday, why we are here and what we have to do.

"We also don't want to let them get too disappointed or frustrated - that's not going to work. We need to have proper preparation and give the players proper guidance going into Saturday's game.

"When we lose and we win, we have one day to celebrate or be disappointed. Then we have one day to get ready for the next.

"And whether we lose or win, we have to improve. Everyone is anxious right now. But we have to calm down a little bit. Next game...next opportunity.

"When you lose a game, you want to play immediately so you can fix it. So we have to control the anxiety we have, recycle it and turn it into positive energy and a winning mentality.

"And we have to go back to basics, go back to what made us win games consistently," he continued.

"It is true that we are suffering an accumulation of injuries, but we don't make excuses. We know this team is good enough to win at the weekend.

"We want to be strong in defence and clinical in attack. We need to recover those basics as soon as possible.

"We will review the Preston game again, starting with myself and the staff and then the players, look at what we could have all done better.

"And we will be critical of ourselves, because we are here to improve and we are here to win.

"We have to get better and we will always work towards improvement. And on Saturday we have to react positively."
