“The boys were saying in the dressing room that over a 46-game season, it’s not the worst result,” reflected Josh Laurent after a 0-0 draw at Middlesbrough. “But we are disappointed because we want to win every game.
“We have shown so far this season that we can do that – and we wanted to do it again today.
“But we’re unbeaten still and we’ll take that into Tuesday and look to win that.
“We take it one game at a time, and if we win on Tuesday against Wycombe we can think of it as a good point. That’s what we’ll look to do.”
The game itself was a tough battle – not many clear opportunities given away by either side. But the Royals stood up to the challenge well.
“We knew it would be physical – the way they play makes it difficult and different,” he continued. “There aren’t too many games that will be like that this season. We’ve probably got one of them coming up again on Tuesday!
“It’s good to get those games in while they’re coming thick and fast, so we can get our heads down and try to get the wins.
“Today it felt like if we had got one goal, gone a goal in front like we have done in other games, we would have come away with three points. Especially today if we’d gone in front first, it could have been a different game and we could have really hurt them.
“It’s a team effort to get those clean sheets – from Lucas, right back to Rafa. And for whoever comes on, it’s the same thing.
“We want to keep that record going. We know we’ve got goals in us so if we can keep them out the other end, we’ve shown that we can nick one or two goals this season. We should be proud of that, and it has to continue.”
