🗨 Pauno | “The break was important, to analyse and improve”

Manager reflects on a weekend without a match

13 October 2020

We were just getting used to that winning feeling on a Saturday evening, where we could savour three points earned by the Royals. But along came the international break!

That offered fresh opportunities though… even from a position of four wins from four, it was a chance to put in the hard yards on the training ground and keep pushing in a positive direction.

“We didn’t really get away from football, because we practiced!” said Pauno. “We had a good week of training and we’ve been thinking about our upcoming games and the weeks we have ahead.

“But we at least had some days where we could unload a little bit – especially when we weren’t working. I wanted to look around a bit more and get to know Reading.

“After the first month of competition, it’s important for us to have this break – to analyse, to see where we can improve on and off the field, and to work. That’s what we did, and the past week of training was very good. Now we have another week where we have to prepare for our next opponent.

“This week we are working on preparing for the game, but we begin by reminding ourselves about our last performances and what made us have such a good start.

“And while we have to remind ourselves to keep our feet on the ground, we also have to acknowledge the good things that we did so far, and we want to keep building on top of that.

“It’s a good opportunity for us to even increase the level and we have a very difficult game on Saturday. We have a goal towards which we want to work, and we are going to prepare.”
