"Today we are going to speak to some of our overseas fans and learn from them how it is to support our team from where they are in the world," explained the Royals boss
"We are also going to going to surprise them with a new home shirt," he smiled.
Veljko Paunović took time out from his busy schedule to speak at length with for of our biggest overseas supporters - following the Royals' every kick from afar.
Charles from Toronto in Canada summised that his first Reading game came back in 1958, while Johnny from Ireland has been supporting the club but also the mental health message as a Royals fans for a long time.
Invited initially just to speak with one of the club's staff about life supporting the Royals from afar, all four were pleasantly surprised when the manager sat down in front of the computer screen to speak personally to them.
Paul was so shocked his surprised face froze while the Maltese internet tried to catch up, while Charles' first words were to congratulate Pauno and his team on their fantastic start to the season.
"Welcome to the club!" came the message from Ireland. "What a surprise, a nice surprise!" Johnny beamed.
"I want to thank you for the contribution you make - it's great to have fans like you, people who are supporting and contributing to our community and our club," Veljko said to Paul.
"It means the world. To have a club that is so focused on family and its supporters. It's great when the club reaches out - and it's worth it. Because even though we may not be there physically, we are all celebrating when the team scores."
Pauno handed Marco a shirt on the strict proviso that he promises to come over to Reading from Germany when he next can. Marco is already checking the flights to Heathrow.
He congratulated Jonny on his three 17-hour walks between the Madejski and Craven Cottage in support of mental health causes and told him that he was an amazing example of resilience for the players to follow.
And at the end of each individual call, Pauno presented our fans with a new home shirt send over land and sea to their doorsteps.
"I will wear it with pride!" Charles smiled.
