Few people can have been more part of the fabric of Reading Football Club than Douggie Webb who has sadly passed away at the age of 81.
He was a relatively local boy from Stokenchurch who signed professional in 1956 and spent his entire League career with Reading.
Douggie was a very busy inside-forward who made just over 200 appearances and scored 93 goals for the first team (and over a century for the reserves).
He was top scorer with 18 in 1964-65 but a serious injury led to premature retirement from League football at only 28.
Douggie returned to Elm Park as youth team manager, first team physio and later reserve manager while the family connection remained very strong.
His wife Joan worked at Elm Park as a secretary for the Supporters’ Club, his son Neil started his own glittering career at the club and his grandson Josh was also on the club’s books.
The thoughts of everyone at Reading Football Club are with Douggie's family and friends at this time.
