He couldn't be here to sign on the dotted line last week as he continued to represent his country at Under-20 level out in Portugal, but Tomás Esteves is now in Reading and ready for a new challenge in England.
"I’m really happy to be here," he smiled. "It’s going to be a good experience for me and I hope I can help the team achieve their goals.
"I arrived in the country on Sunday night, I went to see the stadium and it looks great. I can’t wait to play there.
"I have spoken with the manager and I'm looking forward to working with him. He told me about the ambitions of the club, the way his team plays – all were factors in me coming here.
"And now I can’t wait to start training with the guys. I look forward to helping them and I expect them to help me as well," explained the 18-year-old.
So what can we expect from the Porto loanee? "I am a very technical player, an intelligent player, I like to play good football but I also like to defend.
"I came here to play, to learn, and to grow as a player and a person. I want to improve my physicality and I think I’m in the right place to do it.
"I watch a lot of English football. The supporters in England are really close to their teams – since I was young I could see that. So I’m really looking forward to seeing them back in the stadium with us when it is possible.
"I will give my best to be the best player I can be. God has given me the opportunity to do what I love on the biggest stage and I am really happy with my journey so far.
"I have worked hard for it and I’m looking forward to seeing where my journey goes from this point on.
"I want to leave my mark, I want to impress and I want to show the way I play and help the team."
