⚡ Vote now! Olise thunderbolt a contender for Sky Bet Championship Goal of the Month!

Young midfielder's first professional goal is nominated for award...

9 October 2020

It was his first professional goal. And what a strike!

A perfect start to the season saw us win all four of our games in September and Michael Olise's spectacular strike against Barnsley at Madejski Stadium was a clear highlight.

The Royals already had the lead against the Tykes, courtesy of a Yakou Meite header but it was a stunning volley from a half-cleared corner that has won the Royals midfielder a nomination for the Sky Bet Championship Goal of the Month gong.

But he's up against stiff competition for the award.

Huddersfield Town's Fraizer Campbell eased himself into space in the area as Harry Toffolo charged towards the by-line. He then adjusted his body again, arching back to connect perfectly with a waist-high volley against Nottingham Forest.

And Blackburn midfielder Bradley Johnson scored against his former club at the end of September - the Rams defenders stood off him and Johnson reminded them of his ability to strike from distance with a rasping low effort.

The winners of the Sky Bet EFL Goals of the Month are chosen by a fan poll on Twitter.

Voting is OPEN NOW via the Sky Bet Championship account and it closes at 3pm on Monday. So get voting Royals fans! Winners will be announced next Friday...good luck Michael!

This opening month has been one which has seen our manager and players earn a lot of plaudits already of course.

Earlier this morning, Veljko Paunović was awarded with the Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Month award, while Omar Richards, George Puscas, Tom Holmes and Lucas João have all been named in the Team of the Week at different stages throughout the opening month.

And João was also handed an award by the EFL as the Carabao Cup Player of the Round, following his perfect hat-trick in our Round One win over Colchester United.
