🏟️ Your Season Ticket 2020-21 | Renewal process: Part 1

The timeline for the return of football fans remains unknown, but we want to ensure our most loyal supporters get access to live action as soon as it is safe and possible...

15 September 2020

The season has begun and we’re out of the blocks with two wins from two under our belts. But off the pitch, the club have been working tirelessly to plan and prepare for the potential return of supporters to our stadium. So we are pleased to now be able to share details of those plans for 2020-21 Season Ticket renewals...

Naturally, everything is dependent on government guidance and the latest precautions we are being asked to take. And the timelines for a return for fans to the stands currently remain unknown.

And as a club, we were reluctant to ask for our fans’ hard-earned money and go on sale with Season Tickets for this season until we had a better grasp of the number of games we might be able to offer our supporters as part of that package…but with government advice indicating a limited capacity crowd may be possible for football clubs next month, we collectively edge closer to being able to allow supporters back into Madejski Stadium.

So, we can now provide an update on our plans to our most loyal and valued supporters.

Key to the process are the following priorities:

Maximise | We want to make football available to as many of our fans that are able to safely attend matches at Madejski Stadium.

Minimise | We want to keep the up-front costs as low as possible for our most loyal supporters – our 2019-20 Season Ticket Holders.

Prioritise | We want to provide fair access to all available tickets, prioritising our most loyal fans.

So how are we planning to proceed with the plan? Take a good read of the following information, the terms and conditions that are available at ticketing.readingfc.co.uk and our list of frequently asked questions which should explain everything and more here.

2019-20 Season Ticket Holders are now able to renew for 2020-21 for a moderate fixed ‘retainer fee’ of between just £10 for 12 & Under and £60 for Adults.

Season Ticket category

2020-21 initial payment

Adult

£60

65 and Over

£45

18 to 24

£35

17 and Under

£25

12 and Under

£10

This is effectively a down payment on your Season Ticket which, subject to availability, will enable you to purchase individual match tickets at your discounted Season Ticket rate in the interim. And you can sign up and make that down payment now by clicking here.

Please note, renewals will only be available online via ticketing.readingfc.co.uk.  If you are a registered disabled supporter you should also renew online but email disability@readingfc.co.uk to request for your personal assistant ticket to be processed for you. You will need to include your name and Supporter ID.

2019-20 Season Ticket Holders have until 5pm on Friday 2nd October 2020 to submit their application for renewal and pay their ‘retainer’ fee. Any supporters who do not register and pay the relevant retainer fee during this period will not have their seat reserved for them for Part 2 of the renewal when we hopefully return to full capacity at Madejski Stadium.

Season Ticket Prices for 2020-21 are unchanged…frozen from the 2019-20 season across all age groups and every stand. This ‘retainer fee’ paid as part one of your renewal process is non-refundable but will be discounted from the remaining balance that is calculated when full capacity is once again possible.

Case study 1
So, for example, should an Adult choose to retain their Season Ticket in the East Stand for 2020-21, this is  hypothetically how it might work:

  • Renewing ST holder pays ‘retainer fee’ of £60 (before 5pm on Friday 2nd October 2020)
  • As a ST holder, individual match tickets are purchased at your discounted ST holder pro-rata price of £16.30 per match.
  • Full capacity becomes possible with 10 matches remaining, so ST holder pays the outstanding balance of their Season Ticket (10/23 of £375 = £163.04). The original retainer fee is discounted from this price, so the outstanding amount then payable would be £103.04.

Case study 2
Here is another example of how the model might work for a fan aged 18-24 in the South Stand:
Renewing ST holder pays ‘retainer fee’ of £35 (before 5pm on Friday 2nd October 2020)

  • As a ST holder, individual match tickets are purchased at your discounted ST holder pro-rata price rate of £5.65 per match.
  • Full capacity becomes possible with 12 matches remaining, so the ST holder pays the outstanding balance of their Season Ticket (12/23 of £130 = £67.83). The original retainer fee is discounted from this price, so the outstanding amount then payable would be £32.82.

In a nutshell, our loyal supporters can attend individual matchdays at Season Ticket Holder rates before we return to full capacity for a small initial up-front fee that will be redeemed in full once maximum capacity is again possible at Madejski Stadium.

This system will also allow any Season Ticket Holders who continue to shield, or initially choose to err on the side of caution when limited crowds are permitted to return, the opportunity to retain their Season Ticket for this small retainer fee which will be included in the adjustments made in calculating your outstanding Season Ticket balance as and when full capacity returns.

Whilst we are operating at a reduced capacity, Season Ticket Holders who renew for 2020-21 by paying the retainer fee will be given priority access to purchase home matchday tickets on a match-by-match basis – although with numbers of supporters still undetermined and remaining flexible we are not able to guarantee any fan a ticket for every single home game.

We appreciate that this might seem complex. But it is the best way the club can commit to minimising costs for our most loyal supporters and keep football as affordable as possible for supporters.

As mentioned, the price of Season Tickets for 2020-21 has been frozen across all age bands and all four stands. These prices remain extremely competitive within the context of the Championship and beyond.

More questions? We may have them answered in our list of FAQs, which is available here. We would encourage supporters to read through these very carefully.

If your question isn’t answered or more clarity is needed on your specific situation, we intend to answer all supporters’ questions on Twitter via the @RFCSupport account throughout the course of Wednesday 16th September.

If you can’t ask your question on social media, fans are welcome to submit any enquiries via email to ticketing@readingfc.co.uk but please be aware that a reply may not be immediate if submitted by email.

New Season Ticket Holders

But what about new supporters? Don’t we want to attract new fans to Madejski Stadium? Yes we do. While reduced capacities are in place, the club strongly feel it is important to prioritise our most loyal fans and ensure their loyalty to the club last season is repaid.

However, we remain optimistic that there will be provision for new Season Ticket Holders too – potentially during reduced capacity fixtures (depending on our reduced capacity maximum numbers and ST renewal uptake). Further information on how to purchase new Season Tickets will be communicated in due course.
