Trespassing on the railway network is a major issue for Network Rail and the wider rail industry - and that can affect everyone, including our supporters.
The rail industry, Network Rail and British Transport Police set up a campaign called #YouVsTrain in 2018 - and Reading FC and our Community Trust have been supporting it since the outside, aiming to educate people of the perils that can be faced.
Many people fail to understand the danger they put themselves, and others, in when they make the choice to stray onto the rail network unauthorised.
And these dangers are traditionally seasonal – there are spikes at key times throughout the year, with higher incidents taking place during British Summer Time. With that has come an increase in the number of deaths, injuries and delays on the rail network.
This is an industry-wide drive, which aims to:
- Raise awareness about the dangers of trespassing
- Change attitudes towards trespassing
- Reduce the likelihood of future trespassing
With lockdown measures set to change soon and the days becoming longer in British Summer Time, it's a worthy reminder to everyone of the dangers of the rails.
Take a look at the short film below entitled Parallel Lines, which brings home the message. Please be warned that the video contains scenes which some viewers may find upsetting.
