Royals defender Ethan Bristow has been nominated for January 2021’s Premier League 2 Player of the Month award.
Recognition for Bristow’s performances comes after he helped Mehmet Ali’s U23 side to wins over Fulham and Aston Villa, as the young Royals saw out the month undefeated to move within three points of second.
The 19-year-old left-back also scored his first goal of the season, finding the net during a 3-0 win over the Cottagers, as he put Reading ahead with a corner that worked its way in despite the best efforts of the Fulham defence.
Bristow’s fellow nominees for the January award are: Folarin Balogun (Arsenal), Louie Barry (Aston Villa), Kion Etete (Tottenham Hotspur), Rhys Hughes (Everton), Joe Hugill (Manchester United) and Jacob Wakeling (Leicester City).
The Maidenhead-born defender is in good company, and if he was to take the award would be rubbing shoulders with an impressive list of former winners, from Leeds United’s Sam Greenwood who won in September, to Manchester City’s Cole Palmer (October) and Liam Delap (November) and Chelsea’s Lewis Bate who took the award in December.
The Premier League’s Football Development Panel will be deciding the winner in due course.
