While the Royals have been enjoying a good season to date, George Pușcaș has been a spectator for much of it.
An injury sustained back in November has kept the Romanian sidelined since – that is, until he made a return from the bench away at Bristol City last week, and then more minutes in our home loss against Middlesbrough.
Now he’s feeling fit, willing, and ready to make key contributions in the final third of the campaign as we look to stay in the mix right until the bitter end.
“Personally, I’m very happy because it has been very hard months,” said Pușcaș. “A big thanks to our medical department, because it’s not an easy injury – you think you are fit, but you are not.
“Now I am happy – and I just want to think about the final games and to look forward, because I have missed it. I cannot wait to play in the final games here and to do a great end to the season.
“There are many games left. I am looking forward to them. I’m feeling good, I’ve been working hard, I feel fit and strong. I’m ready for everything.”
He and the team were understandably disappointed at the final whistle on Saturday – missing out on the points and allowing Boro to make up some ground.
But that’s in the past as far as he’s concerned – all that matters now is the next 15 matches where our fate will be decided.
“We lost today – but we don’t give up,” he continued. “We have to think about the next game now. This one is finished, it’s done. So we have to look forward.
“Now we have an important game in three days and we have to be ready – and get rested, because it’s not easy to play every three days.
“We knew Middlesbrough are tough because we played against them when we played away. We knew this is a tough team.
“The second half was better, but in the first half they were more aggressive than us. Now it’s done, so we are thinking about the next game.”
