Reading goalkeeper Sam Walker has today joined League One side AFC Wimbledon on a loan deal until the end of the season.
Walker, who has been with the Royals since arriving from Colchester United in July 2018, had recently enjoyed a successful two-week stint with Blackpool, as part of an emergency loan deal.
Following a number of impressive performances for the Seasiders, he has secured himself a deal elsewhere in the division.
First on the agenda for Walker and his new teammates is a Papa John’s Trophy third round trip to the Memorial Stadium to take on Bristol Rovers, with whom Walker spent the 2012-13 season on loan from Chelsea.
Walker’s first league outing at Plough Lane could see him come up against promotion hopefuls Sunderland, on Saturday 16th January. Glyn Hodges’ side then travel to third-placed Portsmouth the following Tuesday for what will be another tough test.
The 6ft 6in shot stopper could also renew acquaintances with Blackpool when the Dons travel to Bloomfield Road in early March.
The Dons will be hoping Walker can prove key in their battle to remain in League One, with Hodges’ men currently sitting 20th in the table.
The loan deal is subject to the usual ratification by the relevant football authorities.
