We are delighted to today reveal Royals Esports – a new gaming community for Reading supporters, in partnership with New York-based enterprise Rival – and our inaugural FIFA 21 tournament will take place next week with a massive prize on offer: win one of two Toshiba 55” 4K TVs!
“As we celebrate the 150th anniversary of our club this season and celebrate our rich history, we are really pleased to also be looking to the future and announcing the launch of our gaming community on the Rival platform,” said Tim Kilpatrick, Head of Commercial at Reading FC. “We’ll be offering fresh content, experiences and activities that will engage and build on the popularity and connection of esports and football with the gaming community.”
Our launch tournament begins on Thursday 17th June at 8pm – two tournaments will be running side-by-side on PS4 and Xbox One, with the winners of each taking home a huge new Toshiba TV, perfect to watch fixtures at this summer’s European Championships! And there is even a runners-up prize in the shape of a signed 2020-21 home shirt for the other finalis. Registrations are open right away – find out more about how to enter, below…
We’ve got a few more dates in the diary too for future tournaments – with retail items and matchday experiences on offer – as well as plans to add the games titles that you want to see to the platform. And our schedule of events on the Royals Esports platform will expand over the coming weeks and month... that means more tournaments, more opportunities to win prizes!
Rival will power Royals Esports with its white-label enterprise platform solution that enables Reading and other sports clubs across the globe to directly connect with and engage gamers with an always-on experience… ultimately building an evergreen Reading-branded content destination.
“Rival is thrilled to partner with Reading to launch Royals Esports in its milestone season to connect with the global gaming audience,” said Rival CMO Dan Parise. “We look forward to working with the club to innovate with new programming and revenue opportunities, and to provide ways to integrate Reading’s sponsors into the platform.”
Reading FC is Rival’s third partnership in English football club – it also powers the gaming communities for Premier League sides Watford and Aston Villa, as well as a partnership roster of more than 20 clients across sports and brands… including sports clubs in the MLS, NFL, NHL and NBA on the other side of the pond!
So now it’s time to prove yourself against your fellow Royals. Play to win, with Royals Esports.

What games and consoles will be on Royals Esports?
Initially we are launching with FIFA 21 (and FIFA 22 when it is released), and we will listen to our community to judge demand for other games. At the moment, all tournaments will run side-by-side on PS4 and Xbox One.
What prizes are on offer?
It’s free to enter, and you earn points just for playing, so everyone is a winner! But some winners are bigger winners than others…
- As standard, players will be able to earn Rival Points (RP) just for competing – climb the leaderboard! Bumper hauls of RP are on offer for the winners and runners-up for each tournament, and bonus points for wins, draws and losses for every single match played.
- We will also be offering marquee prizes for tournament winners. That will include some amazing Reading FC prizes, including merchandise and experiences, as well as giveaways from some of our club partners.
