🏡 Host families: can you accommodate a star of the future?

Royals looking for local households for our young players living away from home...

10 March 2021

Reading Football Club are looking for local households interested in hosting young Academy players living away from home.

Whether it’s just one night or a full season, please get in touch if you can accommodate one of our young players; we would love to hear from you.

An incredible number of our Academy players have gone on to play first-team football for the Royals – this season we’ve had to get a second Honours Board to accommodate all of the players to make their senior debuts!

And the help of host families cannot be understated in assisting those young players on that journey.

Distance and Travel

We are looking for households in the local area. For those players who don’t drive all travel requirements are managed by the Club.

Payments are made monthly. The Club recognises the commitment of every household in providing a warm and safe environment and in return will offer full support and guidance at all times.

All members of the household, aged 16 years and above, will be required to apply for an online Enhanced DBS check. This is paid for by the Club and managed by the club’s Lead Disclosure Officer.   Please note players will only be placed with host families subject to satisfactory clearance. All hosts are also asked to provide evidence of a valid Gas Safety Certificate and Electrical Safety Certificate (EICR). Please click here for the full Club Requirements.

Reading Football Club is committed to safeguarding and protecting children and young people and fully accepts its responsibility for the safety and welfare of all children and young people who engage with the club. The welfare of children and young people is of paramount importance and all children and young people have a right to be protected from abuse regardless of their gender, race, disability, sexual orientation, religion, belief or age. The club promotes the safety, welfare and well-being of all children and young people enabling them to participate in any club activity in an enjoyable, safe, inclusive and child-centred environment. For more information, please see our Safeguarding Policy.

The moment one of my players in my care gets a pro contract, scores a goal or keeps a clean sheet… I couldn’t be more proud. I know all the hard work they have put in to get this far. Being a host family works alongside my other work commitments and allows me to work term time only if needed which fits around my own family. It also gives a real insight into the hard work that goes on behind the scenes at the football club. Seeing the boys arrive at 14 years old and then to follow their careers over the years gives great job satisfaction.
