Five of Reading FC Women’s first team have been sharing their thoughts on International Women’s Day, what the day means to them and who has inspired them along the way.
Erin Nayler, Kristine Leine, Molly Bartrip, Lauren Bruton and Deanna Cooper answered a series of questions posed to them by Reading FC Women’s sponsors YLD, around the subject of International Women’s Day.
What does International Women’s Day mean to you?
EN: Overcoming adversity.
KL: Thankful to the women that paved the way.
MB: Celebrating and honouring what women have achieved, past and present.
LB: Striving for gender equality.
Who was your female role model growing up?
KL: My Mum
MB: Kelly Smith was the first female footballer I knew about growing up, so she inspired me to play.
LB: My Mum. Always my role model. I strive to be as good of a person as she is.
DC: My incredible Mum.
Who currently inspires you?
EN: My family (I miss you!).
MB: My Mother.
DC: My Sister. Every day she fights to keep the public safe as an Emergency Worker.
What advice would you give your younger self?
EN: Face every challenge head on – it will only make you stronger!
KL: Trust yourself. Don’t let other people put you down.
LB: To always believe in myself, even when others don’t.
DC: To see the positive in every situation.
What makes you proud to be you?
KL: I’m proud to have taken the step to move abroad on my own.
MB: I’ve overcome some really dark times and always bounced back, so that’s something I am proud of.
