Season Tickets are on sale. The pitch is being prepared. We're not away from May yet and the excitement is starting to build ahead of the new season already. And now we have welcome news of the first of a number of pre-season friendlies being scheduled for July.
David Moyes’ West Ham finished in sixth place in the Premier League with a comfortable 3-0 final day win over Southampton, paving their way into the Europa League – and the Hammers are now set to visit the Madejski on Wednesday 21st July, kick-off 7pm, to prepare for another top flight campaign.
Informed decisions, on whether this friendly will remain behind-closed-doors or will be ticketed and played in front of home and away fans at Madejski Stadium, will be made closer to the time of the game and further information will follow in due course.
It is more than eight years since we last met the Hammers in competitive action – that encounter came at Upton Park as the hosts ran out 4-2 winners in our final Premier League game of the 2012-13 campaign.
Earlier in that same season, however, Pavel Pogrebnyak had netted the only goal in a win for the Royals at Madejski Stadium.
Having enjoyed their best season for more than two decades, the Hammers – who could include England internationals Declan Rice and Jesse Lingard as well as former Royal Michal Antonio in their pre-season squad - are sure to prove a stern challenge for Veljko Paunovic’s men when they arrive in Reading a little more than two weeks before the start of our 150th anniversary season.
Details of more pre-season friendlies for the Royals will be announced in due course, so stay tuned to readingfc.co.uk.
