Bio

Experienced Canadian winger Hoilett signed up to be part of Veljko Paunovic’s Reading squad in August 2021, after he completed the paperwork on a one-year deal with the Royals, following his departure from Cardiff City.

Junior began his career in Blackburn, coming through the Rovers ranks to sign professional terms at Ewood Park ahead of two loan spells in Germany - at SC Paderborn and then in the Bundesliga with FC St Pauli.

Back in Lancashire, he scored on his full debut for Rovers in a 3-1 League Cup win over Gillingham and he opened his Premier League account in a 2-0 win over West Brom in January 2011. In the summer of 2012, the Ontario-born forward signed for QPR and his first Rangers goal came against the Royals that September; he scored the opening goal in a five-goal Capital One Cup encounter with Brian McDermott’s Reading side at Loftus Road.

He has twice won promotion to the Premier League, helping QPR return to the top table of English football via a Play-off Final victory over Derby County in 2014 before winning automatic promotion with Cardiff City.

In his first full season as a Bluebird, Hoilett played in every game of City’s successful Championship campaign, scoring 11 goals across league and cup competition to secure Cardiff second spot with a draw at home to Reading on the final day of the season.

For his native Canada, Junior has registered 14 international goals in over 40 appearances, and he scored twice in two comprehensive World Cup qualifying wins in June 2021. Then, he was USA-bound to compete for CONCACAF Gold Cup honours with his country, a tournament in which he reached the semi-finals.

Hoilett made his Reading debut as a substitute during a 2-1 away defeat to Coventry City in August 2021 and scored his first goal in blue and white hoops when he returned to the Cardiff City Stadium that October.

The winger then began 2022 by netting a brace in a 2-2 draw with Derby County and went on to finish the campaign with 27 appearances for the Royals.

On the international stage he played a vital role for Canada as the Maple Leafs qualified for their first World Cup in 36 years following a 4-0 win over Jamaica in March 2022, with Hoilett scoring the third.

Hoilett agreed a new one-year-deal with the club in July 2022 to keep him in Berkshire for the 2022-23 campaign.
