Odimayo's Story:
A talented defender who came through the ranks as a Royal, Akinwale Odimayo was handed his first team bow on a record-breaking evening for our Academy.

As José Gomes’ side travelled to Home Park in the Second Round of the Carabao Cup in August 2019, the Portuguese boss made history by naming a record eight Academy graduates in his starting eleven.

Debutant Odimayo was joined by captain Jordan Obita, Teddy Howe, Gabe Osho, Andy Rinomhota, Michael Olise, Josh Barrett and Danny Loader in a side that won 4-2 against Plymouth Argyle to set up a Third Round trip to Molineux.

Aged at 22 years, 357 days, it was the fourth youngest starting eleven fielded by the club since the turn of the century nearly two decades ago now!

Odimayo’s bow meant that our Academy graduates total rose to 53 and the young defender was presented with a shirt to commemorate the milestone at Hogwood Park the following week before embarking on a month-long loan move to Hungerford Town.
