Kelly’s story:
London-born, Kelly’s Reading story began at the age of 16. Upon leaving Arsenal, he joined our Academy as a scholar in June 2006.

At 18, after playing for the reserve team he finished the season having totalled 27 appearances at left-back.

The following year saw the defender feature within first team plans. Having been subject to a place on the substitute’s bench for the opening game of the season, Kelly made his debut for the Royals the following match in a Carling Cup fixture away to Dagenham & Redbridge.

That was to be one of 11 starts that season for Kelly, prior to loan spells with Wycombe Wanderers and Lincoln Town throughout the following two campaigns.

His last appearance as a Royal came towards the start of the 2010/11 season. In front of the Madejski Stadium crowd he signed-off by playing 50 minutes against Northampton Town in the opening fixture of the League Cup competition.

Beyond the hoops:

Following his Madejski days, Kelly opted to sign for Notts County on a two-year deal. He scored his first goal for the club on his fourth appearance, a 52nd minute volley against Tranmere Rovers – only his second professional goal of his career, with the first coming during his High Wycombe days against Millwall.

He ended his association with the Magpies in 2013, after making 56(+5) appearances he took a year out of the game before deciding to step back into football with Northern Premier League Division One side Spalding United, aged 25.
