Davies’ Story:
Davies attended Aylesbury Grammar School in Buckinghamshire and began his footballing career when he was spotted by Watford whilst playing for the school’s senior team.

Having started off in the Hornets youth system, he then moved on to Wycombe in 2001 before quickly making the jump to the Royals' Academy in 2002.

Often captaining our youth side, Davies stepped into first team football via a loan move to Aldershot Town in the summer of 2007.

Wearing the number 16 shirt he played in 32 games in the following season and scored a noteworthy nine times. His first professional goal coincided with his debut for the Shots, a 2-1 victory over Kidderminster that August.

Ending that season with promotion, Davies also achieved the exploit of Conference National goal of the season, courtesy of his injury-time goal against Torquay United in March.

In the subsequent campaign, he was again loaned out to Aldershot where on 30th August 2009 he made his first Football League appearance in a 3-2 win over Bradford city, scoring the last of the three goals on the night and his first of 14 for the season.

Davies’ Reading debut finally came at the start of the 2009/10 campaign, playing centre-back alongside Alex Pearce in a 0-0 draw at home to Nottingham Forest that August.

It turned out to be one of four appearances that the Republic of Ireland midfielder would make for the Royals before leaving for a loan spell with League One’s Wycombe Wanderers in October.

And as it happened, they turned out to be his last appearances in a Reading shirt, following another loan spell with Wycombe and then Bristol Rovers, Davies left the club in 2011 to join Crawley Town on a free transfer.

Beyond the hoops:
He went on to start the 2011/12 season at Crawley before returning to Aldershot again on a loan deal in October.

Between the two, he made 32 appearances for the season and scored another three goals, taking his professional tally to 32.

On 31st December 2012, Davies had his contract at Crawley terminated by mutual consent, and went on to sign for Oxford United on non-contract terms the following March.

He scored his first goal for the club in a 3-2 defeat against his old employers Aldershot, and later the midfielder confirmed he had agreed a one-year-deal to stay with the club until the end of the 2013/14 season.

He spent a little time away from first team football before returning to the game to represent Oxford City, Wealdstone and Chelmsford.
