Watson’s story:
A talented young full-back, Tennai Watson is an Academy product of the Royals who featured heavily for the U21s during 2015/16 that saw Martin Kuhl’s side finish 9th in the top tier of the Barclays U21 Premier League.

The defender started in a number of key victories throughout that campaign, including the 1-0 victory over Leicester City at Hogwood Park, a 2-0 away win against Everton and a closely fought 3-2 win over Middlesbrough.

The fledgling full-back was part of the U18s side that reached the FA Youth Cup semi-final back in 2014, narrowly losing out over two legs to Fulham two years ago.

Tennai started training with the Royals first team in April 2016 and was given squad number 43 ahead of the Sky Bet Championship clash against Leeds at Elland Road.

The defender was then named on the bench for three of the last four first team games that season, before making his bow for the senior team as a substitute against Preston in the opening EFL fixture of 2016/17 – becoming the 40th player to come through our Academy ranks to play for the first team when he debuted as a 66th minute substitute for Jordan Obita in a 1-0 home win. He continued to feature in the first team squad on a regular basis throughout the 2016-17 season.
