A towering young defender, Cooper is highly rated by the Royals.
The 6’4” defender, who received call-ups to the England U18s squad, led from the back as the Academy stars reached the Elite League Final in 2012/13, making 30 appearances at centre-half and scoring four goals along the way.
Powerful in the air but assured with the ball at his feet, Cooper confidently made the step up to the U21s squad that season, playing four times and scoring a late winner in a 1-0 win against Stoke City back in March.
He continued to develop in the U21s side during 2013/14 despite suffering injury, and was included in the first team squad that travelled to a midlands training camp in summer 2014.
The 2014/15 season was a successful one for Cooper as he made the breakthrough form the U21’s to the senior team. The youngster made 19 appearances for Reading in all competitions that season including scoring both goals in a 2-1 away win in the Championship at high flyers Norwich, establishing himself as an important member of the squad.
During 2015/16 Cooper was a mainstay within the defensive line, making 30 appearances across the league and cup he netted against Sheffield Wednesday in January and Hull city in April to take his goal tally up to four for the Royals.
That season he also earned a call-up to the England U20s squad in March, making his debut for the side against Canada.
Promotion beckoned for the towering centre-half in 2016-17, albeit whilst on loan with Millwall. Cooper came into the New Den and helped turn around the Lions' fortunes with just one goal conceded in his first nine games at the club! He also helped the League One side to giantkilling FA Cup wins over Watford and Leicester City and he was part of the squad that triumphed at Wembley to earn Millwall promotion back to the secodn tier at the end of the season!
