Mancunian striker Smith joined Reading’s Academy after being released by hometown side Manchester United in 2014.

After signing his first professional contract in the summer of 2016, Smith spent a loan spell with Bishop’s Stortford in 2016/17 and netted twice for the Hertfordshire outfit.

Smith also represented our Under-23 side on 20 occasions that season, and included in his seven goals was a sole strike against former side United.

After being included in Jaap Stam’s squad for the pre-season tour to the Netherlands ahead of the 2016/17 campaign, Smith was named on the bench for the first game of the new Sky Bet Championship season away at Queens Park Rangers.

And then on 8th August 2017, Smith was handed a full debut as he was named in the starting XI for a fixture against Gillingham in the Carabao Cup, which the Royals won 2-0.

In the following round of the competition, Smith netted his first goal in professional football as he wrapped up a 3-1 AET win against Millwall.

He made 11 senior appearances for the Royals in 2017-18, and he registered his first Championship goal in Norwich in March - sadly it was a consolatory strike.

Ahead of 2018-19, striker Smith made the move to Oxford United on a season-long loan.
