Jaakkola was one of a string of signings to be brought in by Reading for the start of the 2016-17 season.

The 6’5” Finn stopper began his career in his hometown with TP-47 before moving to Tuscany and Italian side Siena in 2006. Slavia Prague is where he progressed for one season before a move to the UK transpired when Kilmarnock came calling for his services in 2011.

For Killie he played 13(+1) times, making his debut as a substitute against Hibernian in February before his first start came against St Mirren later that month.

Fellow Finn Mixu Paatelainen was his manager at the time, and Jaakkola kept six clean sheets during his time at Rugby Park whilst also making a senior international appearances for Finland against Sweden.

Three years ago he then put pen to paper on a move to the Premier Soccer League out in South Africa and he kept a clean sheet in the final of the MTN 8 cup competition in 2015 to hand his Cape Town club a 1-0 win over the Kaizer Chiefs at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth.

The 29-year-old then made the move from the South African top flight side to join our RG2 ranks, signing a two-year deal with the Royals for the start of the 2016/17 season.

His first season at Reading was hindered by injury and the formidable form of Ali Al Habsi and the Finn ended with just three cup appearances to his name - although a high point saw him save four penalties in a shootout that saw out Under-23 side earn shootout victory over Portsmouth in the Checkatrade Trophy.

Jaakkola made his Championship debut in November 2017 away at Bolton, and would go on to feature five times in the league that season, on top of six cup appearances.
