Winger Garath McCleary moved from Nottingham Forest to RG2 in the summer of 2012.

The Oxford-born winger spent time at both Oxford United and Oxford City as a teenager before joining Slough Town in 2005.

The Jamaican international moved to Bromley in 2007 where he impressed Nottingham Forest manager Colin Calderwood, who offered McCleary a trial and eventually signed him.

Though he suffered injury mid-way through the 2011-12 season, McCleary bounced back to score six goals in March – four of which came in a 7-3 thriller at Leeds.

The speedy winger was named Championship Player of the Month for March and was eventually voted Forest’s Player of the Season before signing for Reading in May 2012.

Garath impressed in a Reading shirt as the 2012-13 campaign progressed, notching four goals in all competitions. He made over 40 appearances the following year where he scored five times – the pick of the bunch being a fantastic volley against Burnley at Madejski Stadium on the final day of the season, the goal that Royals supporters voted as Goal of the 2013-14 season.

On the international scene he has been a consistent involvement with Jamaica. In 2015 the Reggae Boyz reached the final of the Gold Cup with McCleary bagging goals against Costa Rica and El Salvador en-route.

The wing wizard passed the 200-appearance mark in Reading colours in the 2017-18 campaign; however that season was something of a frustrating one, as injury played its part and ultimately requiring surgery during the off-season.
