Hillingdon-born forward, Mark Nicholls shot to fame when as a young trainee at Chelsea he graduated to the Blues’ first team and scored three Premier League goals for the Stamford Bridge club.

The first in a 6-1 drubbing of Tottenham in December 1997, then a brace in a home win over Coventry City in March the following year.

The 5’10” striker joined Reading on a short-term loan deal at the turn of the century. He did score on his Royals debut, a late equaliser in a 2-2 draw at Gillingham, then notched both goals in our 2-1 Football League Trophy win at Bristol Rovers, before leaving to be loaned out to Grimsby Town.

A further loan spell took him to Colchester before Chelsea released the frontman, whose career then took him into non-league football.

His adventure outside the Football League took him to clubs including Partick Thistle, Clydebank, Maidenhead United, Uxbridge, Beaconsfield SYCOB and finally North Greenford United, and in 2011 turned to a career in coaching, aged 33.
