Wright started his career with his hometown Leeds, winning the 1997 Youth Cup final with United before being loaned to Reading during the 1998/99 season.

He only made two substitute appearances for the Royals in the league, and another sole start in our Football League Trophy fixture against Bournemouth. Wright’s only Madejski stadium attendance came in his final outing in blue and white hoops against Oldham, before joining Dutch club Fortuna Sittard.

He returned to England with trials at Luton Town and then Ipswich Town but his career would drop into the non-league circuit after joining Harrogate Town in September 2001.

Scarborough, Droylsden, Whitby Town, Bradford Park Avenue, Wakefield & Emley and Harrogate Town all put him on their books briefly, before Sutton Town, Stocksbridge Park Steels, Leigh RMI, Blyth Spartans and Newcastle Blue Star were all added to his CV.
