Born in Cork, Ireland, Gamble started his career with his hometown club, making his debut in the Super League Cup against Bohemians in July 2000.

He made his debut in the League Cup against Orient and then his Madejski Stadium bow three months later in our 4-0 FA Cup victory over Grays Athletic.

He made ten appearances for Pardew’s side the following season before spending the 2003/04 campaign out on loan to Conference side Barnet.

He played 44 times for the Bees and scored twice, and on completion of his loan spell Gamble re-signed for his hometown club York in the summer of 2004.

While back with the Irish side, he became a mainstay in the team, winning several honours including the League of Ireland Premier Division in 2005, the FAI Cup in 2007 and the Setanta Sports Cup a year later.

In total, Gamble racked up over 150 appearances for the Rebel Army prior to a move back to England with Hartlepool United come January 2010.

Over the period of one-and-a-half seasons with the Pool, Gamble played 54(+7) times and scored three goals. His time there came to an end when in June 2011, he moved back to Ireland to play for Limerick in the Premier Division, aged 31.
