Dulwich-born, Keith Jones was once the jewel in the Chelsea youth team’s crown. The England schoolboy international midfielder was handed his first team debut at the age of just 17 in March 1983 and spent four seasons playing top flight football with the Blues, before joining Brentford in September 1987 for a fee of £40,000.

Four more years later, he joined Southend United and then linked up with Charlton Athletic in 1994, earning promotion to the Premier League with the Addicks thanks to a penalty shootout win over Sunderland in one of the most dramatic play-off finals ever staged.

In 2000, he linked up with his former Valley teammate Alan Pardew at Reading and made his Madejski Stadium debut in our 2-0 win over Wycombe.

His first and only goal in hoops came in a 4-0 win over Grays Athletic in the FA Cup. Having helped the Royals secure promotion to the First Division in 2001/02, he hung up his boots on a high and took up a coaching career in the United States, at the age of 36.
