Date of birth
Tooting & Mitcham United is where Antonio started his career at the age of 12. And in 2007 at the age 17, he made his debut for the non-league club against Hendon.
After spending six years with Mitcham, he was then signed by our Championship ensemble on a two-year deal in October 2008.
He was immediately loaned back to the Terrors for a month and then joined Cheltenham Town on a slightly longer loan until the end of the season.
Antonio returned to the Royals for the start of the 2009/10 season, making his debut for the club in our Carling Cup fixture at Madejski Stadium against Barnsley.
He then spent the rest of that campaign on loan to League One’s Southampton. On 28th March he played for the Saints in their Johnstone's Paint Trophy final against Carlisle – scoring the fourth of five goals that afternoon with Southampton lifting the trophy by winning the game 4-1.
He returned to Madejski Stadium for the subsequent Championship season and played 24 games in the build-up to our Play-off final against Swansea City that May.
Antonio’s soul Reading goal came in those appearances against Burnley in October. Having been introduced as an 82nd minute substitute, three minutes later he was on the score-sheet, finding the back of the net after a cut back from Shane Long.
Another loan spell with Colchester and then a permanent move to Sheffield Wednesday followed in the winger’s career. Then in August 2014, Nottingham Forest signed the 24-year-old for a fee in the region of £1.5 million.
Antonio was in fine goal-scoring form last season netting 15 times, including two against the Royals when we came to visit the City Ground in August.
