Reading went three points clear at the top of their Premier League Cup group after fighting back to earn a 1-1 draw away at Swansea City on Saturday.
From a senior point of view, though, full-back Andy Yiadom played more than an hour as he gained his first match minutes since picking up an injury that has ruled him out of action since early December.
A young Reading side saw five players who are still eligible for our Under-18s gain playing time, alongside players with first-team experience in Danny Loader, Ryan East and Jeriel Dorsett, as well as Yiadom in the backline.
It was the hosts who took the lead in the first half, though, as Cameron Evans was on hand to glance in from a corner to put the young Swans ahead.
Reading kept themselves in the game despite the difficult playing conditions in Swansea, with the weather playing its part in a tough encounter.
Scott Marshall's side fought hard to the last, and were rewarded with their equaliser with nine minutes remaining. A cross into the area was only punched clear into the path of Oli Pendlebury, who arrowed in the leveller to give Reading the goal they had deserved.
Despite having opportunities to take all three points close to the final whistle, the teams had to settle for a point apiece.
This kept up the young Royals' unbeaten record in the group stages of the Premier League Cup, and subsequently sent them three points clear at the top of Group A.
Qualification for the last 16 is not quite assured for the young Royals, though. Passage will be secured if Charlton beat Colchester on Monday night, but a draw or Colchester win would see Reading and Charlton battle it out for qualification in their final group match, on Monday 24th February at 1pm in Dartford.
