📰 Reading take all 3 points at home to West Ham

Royals go back to 4th with 2-0 victory at Adams Park

12 February 2020

Goals in each half from Jade Moore and Brooke Chaplen saw Reading complete the double over West Ham this season by beating them 2-0 on a cold night at Adams Park, going 4th in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League in the process.

Having seen a couple of ambitious Reading shots fail to hit the target early on, West Ham goalkeeper Moorhouse was eventually called into action in the 15th minute as she denied Brooke Chaplen from point-blank range.

However, Moorhouse couldn’t prevent the Royals from taking the lead midway through the first half as Jade Moore finished off a well-worked free-kick. Fara Williams clipped a ball onto Amalie Eikaland’s head, and the Norwegian found Moore with her header, before Moore nodded home into the corner of the Hammers goal.

Having restricted West Ham to very little in the first half, Reading were unlucky not to see their lead double before the break as the woodwork came to the visitors’ rescue. Moore’s low cross found Remi Allen, who flicked a shot onto the post, before seeing the ball bounce of Amalie Eikeland and just wide.

The Royals started the second half well and would have been clean through on goal twice had it not been for the offside flag.

Chaplen did manage to get a shot away having held off a couple of West Ham defenders, but her effort deflected off Grace Fisk and sailed over.

It took until the 63rd minute for Reading to put some daylight between themselves and West Ham as Chaplen managed to get on the scoresheet. The forward sprinted away from Fisk with purpose before staying composed in front of goal to slot home.

Moore wasn’t far away from adding her second of the evening but the midfielder’s volley just evaded the far corner. Then, in the final 10 minutes, Eikeland ran clean through on goal but as she looked to round Moorhouse, the West Ham goalkeeper managed to grab the ball at her feet.

Chaplen wasn’t far away from putting the icing on the cake late on, but she couldn’t keep her shot down, having been played in by Allen.
