“Every time you play, you have to try to stake a claim and stay in the team,” said Tom McIntyre, having helped the Royals to consecutive shut-outs since returning to the side. While the Royals aren't involved in a scrap at either end of the table, there's still things to compete for!
“Everyone is taking that view. We might not be playing for promotion or battling relegation, but it’s about pride and trying to get as many points on the board on the table as you can.
“We want to take momentum into next season as well. We won’t have a long break and it’ll be a quick turnaround. So every team will be targeting a good end to the season, to take it into next season.
“If we can take a bit of confidence into that break that we have, that will stand us in good stead for when next season starts.”
Speaking after our last outing against Huddersfield, McIntyre outlined the plans for the remainder of the week in the build-up to Saturday’s trip to The Valley to meet Charlton… where he’ll be hopeful of retaining his starting place in defence.
“It’s a day off on Wednesday, so we’ll chill out and recover,” he continued. “Then back in on Thursday – we’ll watch a few clips of them. It’s similar to every week – we have a good routine and it works for us.
“I’ve got to keep working hard and see what the manager decides for the weekend. I’m hoping that I’ve done enough to stay in his thoughts.”
