One of Reading FC's all-time greats, Michael Gilkes, joins us for the first installment of The Royal Exchange podcast.
With no other football to distract us during the lockdown, what better time to relaunch The Royal Exchange in the form of a podcast?
32 years to the day since he grasped the nettle at Wembley and inspired the Simod Cup win, Gilkesy shares some of his memories from that cup run and the big day out in the capital - and the celebrations that followed!
More recently, Gilkesy became our Academy Manager in December 2019 - and he reflects on his first few months behind the wheel, as well as his journey there after hanging up his boots in 2003.
There is also a summary of a recent visit to the Reading FC Deaf team's training session, where John Swift had the opportunity to don the ear defenders and experience playing without the benefit of his hearing.
A disclaimer - this podcast isn't yet the full package. We had this project in the pipeline for next season... but while we're all stuck in the house, instead we have stripped it back and brought it forward. Hopefully it'll provide some entertainment during these days indoors (or on your daily exercise!) When we're all back at Madejski Stadium and when we can develop some more features, we're sure that the podcast will really spring to life.
