😬 McIntyre keen to make amends during ‘revenge month’

Defender ready to do battle with the sides that previously put the Royals to the sword

16 January 2021

Tom McIntyre is hoping to set the record straight against the sides that previously enjoyed victory over us, as we prepare for a string of reverse fixtures, that begin with Coventry City on Tuesday night.

The Royals defender revealed Veljko Paunović has referred to January, and our next three games in particular, as ‘revenge month’ - during which he is eager to see his side right their wrongs from previous meetings.

He said: “We’ve got a few games this month which are reverse fixtures, and the manager has called it ‘revenge month’ so hopefully we can get one over on those teams that beat us earlier in the season, and that’s what we’ll be going out to do for sure.

“We’ll be right up for it against the teams that got a result over us last time, and we’ll be eager to get a bit of payback.”

Between now and the end of the month, the Royals will face Coventry City, Preston North End and Bournemouth, all of whom inflicted defeat on Pauno’s men, handing us three of just seven league defeats to date.

We were meant to embark on 'revenge month' a little sooner, however our meeting with Brentford was postponed due to positive COVID-19 tests within the Bees camp.

Therefore, we begin our quest for payback against the Sky Blues, who were the first team to inflict defeat on Pauno's men, when they downed the Royals during our 3-2 loss at St Andrews in late October.

McIntyre hoped that having 10 days to prepare would allow the group to be more than ready for when Coventry touch down at the Madejski Stadium.

He added: “It’s nice because we haven’t got a midweek game, the manager can get plenty of messages across to prepare us for the next one, so we’ve got to knuckle down, work hard and make sure we’re ready for Tuesday.”
