⚽ Opening soon…‘The RFC Forest Academy Air Dome’

How you can register your interest in taking a slot in our brand new training dome in Winnersh…

24 March 2021

When lockdown ends and life in isolation is more of a distant memory, we are all going to want to have a kick-about!

And we have a new Indoor Training Dome facility which will be ready to take bookings once it is safe for sport at all levels to resume.

The ‘The RFC Forest Academy Air Dome’ is a brand new training centre, situated on Arbor Lane in Winnersh, which we are running in partnership with The Forest School.

The Air Dome is supported solely by a continuous running fan with no additional supporting structure. It’s made of double-skinned fire-retardant polyester fabric, coated with PVC on both sides and welded together in vertical panels; the air between the two membranes creating an isolation barrier.

The surface is FIFA-approved 3G and the full size of the Dome matches up to a Category 1 Academy size pitch (55m x 37m). Or, if you only need half the area, the Dome is also marked up to form two smaller pitches.

The Air Dome will primarily be used by our Academy age groups, the Reading FC Community Trust and pupils at The Forest School, but it will also be available to hire.

And you’ll soon be able to book slots in the Air Dome online via!

Pricing and how to register your interest

You can register your interest in being one of the first to book a slot in our new state-of-the-art Air Dome now, by emailing

One-off Booking:

Half Pitch (37x26m) | £100
Full Pitch (55x37m) | £200

Block Booking of six slots:

Half Pitch (37x26m) | £80 per slot
Full Pitch (55x37m) | £160 per slot

Each booking slot gives you 1 hour, 15minutes of time in the Dome. And we will be running it from 8am – 10.30pm every day of the week.

There will also be a café on site, just across from the Dome, run by The Forest School and adjacent to the school’s Sixth Form building. It will sell hot dogs, sandwiches and baguettes, confectionery, hot and cold drinks and, once open and better established, a fuller menu should be on offer to players in the future.

During school term-time, the hours for hire will be largely restricted to evening slots, and of course our Academy boys will be using the facility throughout the course of each football season with our Trust coaches delivering sessions to groups across each calendar year. So any available slots to hire the Dome will no doubt be snapped up quickly.

We are bound by government guidelines and safety remains of paramount importance with the easing of nationwide restrictions, but if the current timeline remains realistic, we may aim to open the facility to the public from mid-May.
